PRESCHOOL TEACHER— TUCAN LEARNING CENTER Part-time – 15 hours per week 2 month to 1-year contract, starting November 2019 or asap BASIC JOB DESCRIPTION Instruct children (normally up to 5 years of age) in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth needed for primary school at Tucan Learning Center, Aposentillo, Nicaragua. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING High School diploma required with college experience in early childhood development or related field. Associates or Bachelor’s degree in early childhood, environmental education or related field preferred. Experience working with young children (2-6 years old) Knowledge of early childhood education programs and techniques Proactivity, creativity, flexibility and autonomy Fluency in English Basic Spanish knowledge Ready to implicate himself/herself in the development of a new project JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide a variety of age appropriate materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play. Use circle time & centers according to lesson plans, varies the instructional materials used. Teach basic skills such as color, shape, number and letter recognition, personal hygiene, and social skills. Attend to children's basic needs by assisting them during snack time, prompting and assisting them to use the bathroom, and if an accident occurs, changing them into clean and dry clothing. Establish and enforce rules for behavior, and procedures for maintaining order. Encourage student’s positive self-image, supports individuality, independence and also creativity expression. Keep attendance records of children throughout the day. Maintain a safe, clean as well as healthy environment. Assess developmental needs of children as well as work to incorporate individual students learning, physical emotional needs. Maintain accurate assessments progress reports for all students assigned. Communicate frequently and respectfully with children directly, in child-friendly-tones on their level. Read books to entire classes or to small groups. Collaborate, organizes and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music and storytelling. Assimilate arriving children to the school environment by greeting them, helping them remove shoes and backpacks into cubbies. Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to children. Store and maintain in good working order classroom equipment, materials, and supplies. HOURS 2 month to 1 year Contract upon agreement Teaching hours Monday through Thursday 9am- 12pm Arrive 15 minutes early for light cleaning and opening of classroom Maximum of 2 hours per month for monthly lesson plan meetings Minimum of 1 hours of weekly prep for planning and prep of activities, general housekeeping duties and class room maintenance Candidates are required to apply online by sending their CV, references and a cover letter to the following email address:
